I’m Suroor Alikhan. From 2013 to March 2025, I wrote monthly reviews on travel books by women (and sometimes by men about women travellers) for the website Women on the Road. The idea was to highlight travel books written by women.

When I started out, I thought I would have trouble finding these books, but was pleasantly surprised to discover that there is a wealth of books by women travel writers, books that often don’t seem to make to mainstream reviews (although that is slowly changing now).

Women on the Road has been discontinued, so I am now publishing these reviews on my website. Over the next several months, I will post them here, along with any new ones I have read. The ones originally published on Women on the Road will have a line crediting the website.

Hope you enjoy the selection and that it is a journey of discovery for you, as it has been for me. I will continue to look for travel books by women and am happy for you to send me any suggestions.
